Spring at Last

A spring like day in the low 60's.  It sure felt good and it was about time.  On the ride home from work I saw two flocks of turkeys.

In case any one is wondering, I have temporarily abandoned the cleaning of my work space.  It doesn't look much better after 10 hours of effort and three large trash bags. Maybe I will begin anew after my class.

I have a new favorite color:  Goldens Indian Yellow Hue.

Oops. My Bad.

I know it has been a while since my last post but the truth is that things have been a little quiet around here. We still have snow in the yard but at least the ducks are back, a sure sign of spring.

I have had to revamp my final project since the teacher was less than enthusiastic about my original one.  Since the class liked where I was going with the Concrete and Shadows: Scenes from the Mall last semester, I have decided to expand on it.  Why reinvent the wheel?  Here are some of the photos I took for inspiration.  I will post the actual work when I get a chance to take pictures.

Getting Down to Basics

I have to come up with a plan to complete my certificate at RISD.  We have to write a proposal, show some thumbnails, and cite some favorite artists.  Well here's my plan and I actually have two.

Plan 1:  A nine panel mixed media piece where each one of the pieces can stand alone or be a part of the group.  I got inspired by the front cover of the current Somerset Studios magazine.

Plan 2:  This is something I have already thought about previously.  I would make an artist's book entitled Artists from A to Z.  I would chose artists and show examples of their art.

Since this is a drawing and painting class and I generally don't draw or do thumbnails, let alone color studies, this seems to be a bit out of the box as most of the people do more realistic paintings and they also have far more painting experience than I do.  But I have a kindred spirit in the class who just goes for it like I do.  Now that I have some idea of where I am going, this is a load off my mind.  Who knows, I just may do both plans.

First Day of School

I went to the first of my last class at RISD.  Most of the people in class I already know so it was nice to see them again.

I have to get down to business right away.  For next week's class we have to come up with a written proposal of our final project with thumbnail sketches and examples of artists that inspire.  I will probably cite Matisse for his colors and simple drawings, Picasso because I like him and Modigliani for his beautiful women and simple designs.  Beyond that, who knows.

I was thinking about pears but I am not really a still life person.  I should do something mixed media or abstract.  We'll see what happens.

There was no snow in Providence.
